Dorothy was married to Leslie Whitmore in 1944 and moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1946. She was the mother of six children, a role model and mentor of many. There is no one who met her that did not love or admire her in some form or fashion. She had an open door policy, anyone who came to her home was always welcome to eat or sleep. She enjoyed cooking and always cooked more than enough. It was often asked of her why she always cooked so much...she would say, "don't worry about how much I cook, somebody might come by hungry, if they do, there will be enough for them too." Although her name was Dorothy she was affectionately known as "Whapo," which is Spanish for Beautiful One. She leaves to cherish her memory, three children: Martha Wooten, Duane Whitmore, and Devi Laws (Scott), one Stepson Royal Wilcox, one niece Zarita Williams, two nephews, Bernard Williaams and Nico Jordan.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ionia Welch McKinney and Edward Mckinney, two brothers Wesley and George (GB) McKinney, two sisters Doretha Williams and Gloria Jordan. Flen Roy attended since he did not know whether he would be making the next one five years down the road. It was an occasion to see some of the old friends that could make the trip. Many could not make it because of those aging problems which we all have as we get up there. It was a wonderful time to marvel at the changes on campus, observe the new generation of college students and see, in someways, that some things had not changed. A "Meet and Greet" at the Fraternity house and a luncheon at Boudreaux's topped off the events of the weekend. Southern University won their game with Mississippi Valley State. Flen Roy contributed to the state of Alabama in the form of a speeding ticket in Mobile County. State troopers have no mercy on senior citizens.

The highlight of the trip was visiting with high school classmate Evelyn Stamper Young and her daughter, Erica and grandson, Jordan. Additionally, the visit with cousin Nell Davis, John, Lisa and Christian Alexander Martin was also on the top of my list.

<img src="suhc1.jpg"alt="erica and jordan"vspace="2"hspace="2"border="2"> <img src="suhc2.jpg"alt="nell and lisa"vspace="2"hspace="2"border="2">

(L-R) Erica and Jordan visiting Evelyn in Baton Rouge. We tried and was moderately successful. Herberdean, Flen Roy and Nitea along with all of Herberdean's children: Ray, Michael, Michelle, Anita and Tony. The grandchildren; Asia and "Little" Michael Corder were present. We also visited with Donovan the day before Thanksgiving and "Big" Michael Corder on Thanksgiving Day. Nitea and Ricky drove down from the Chicago/Gary area with Ricky's children, Richard, Jr. and Renee. Connie and Flen Roy were also present from Savannah and Lori Singleton (a Moy cousin) and her son Royce Kirkland also attended. We missed Pasty Ruth, Doug, Kevin, Angela, Kourtnee, Kamryn, Ken and Mike. However, we hope that in the future the whole crew can get together somewhere in the USA. If you have any thoughts on when, where, and the time please contact Michelle Bennett and let us start planning. We really had a great Thanksgiving. Just like old times.

Connie and Flen Roy arrived in Nashville on Tuesday evening hoping to help in the preparation of the Thanksgiving dinner. Herberdean insured everyone that she had everything under control. We did have to buy another fresh turkey in case the frozen one did not thaw out in time. The Thanksgiving meal consisted of ham, turkey, macaroni and cheese (prepared by "Big" Michael Corder), string bean casserole (prepared by Anita Corder), broccoli and rice casserole (prepared by Michelle Bennett), sweet potato pies (prepared by Connie Wingard), deviled eggs (prepared by Asia Corder), ice tea, rolls, and etc. A great and tasty meal which was enjoyed by all.

<img src ="thanksgiving1.jpg" alt ="group picture" vspace="2"hspace="2"border="2"

Pictured from (L-R) Nitea Nathaniel, Michael Bennett, Richard Nathaniel Jr., Michelle Bennett, Renee Nathaniel, Royce Kirkland, Ray Bennett, Asia Corder,
Herberdean Bennett, Lori Singleton, Richard Nathaniel, Sr., Michael Corder, Anita Corder, Connie Wingard, Tony Bennett and Flen Roy Wingard

<img src="Thanksgiving2.jpg"alt="lori and royce kirkland"vspace="2"hspace="2"border="2"><img src="thanksgiving3.jpg"alt="connie and tony"vspace="2"hspace="2"border="2">

(L-R) Royce Kirkland and Lori Singleton; Connie Wingard and Anthony "Tony" Bennett, posing during the Thanksgiving gathering.
